Embedded industrial computers empower intelligent warehouse upgrades, setting an industry benchmark for Sinopharm Guangzhou Vaccine Cold Storage

The vaccine cold storage facility of Sinopharm Guangzhou faces multiple industry pain points: vaccine storage requires long-term maintenance at a low temperature of -25℃, and traditional control equipment is prone to circuit failure due to condensation at low temperatures; manual handling is not only inefficient but also poses a risk of temperature variation during vaccine transportation; AGV scheduling in the warehouse is susceptible to electromagnetic interference, leading to positioning deviations that result in misplacement of goods, and the inability to exchange data in real-time among multiple devices creates management silos. To address these issues, the warehouse adopts the Advantech ITA-170V2, a fully domestically produced industrial computer, as the core control unit, paired with the ARK-2121V fanless industrial computer to establish a dual-layer control system, which is suitable for the extreme environment and high-precision operation requirements of cold chain warehousing.

In the intelligent handling process, the AGV-mounted ARK-2121V industrial computer leverages its industrial-grade reliability and precise control advantages. This model features a fully metal-shielded chassis and a serial port supporting optoelectronic isolation, effectively resisting electromagnetic interference from motors and refrigeration equipment within the warehouse. This ensures the AGV's positioning accuracy remains stable at ±3mm, completely solving the problem of positioning drift in metal shelf areas. Its wide temperature design supports stable operation from -40°C to 60°C, and its 9-36VDC wide voltage input accommodates AGV battery voltage fluctuations. Even in a -25°C cold storage, it can operate continuously for 7×24 hours. The fanless, fully sealed structure, coupled with a nano-protective coating on the circuit board, has passed an 85% high humidity salt spray test, fundamentally avoiding issues such as condensation-induced short circuits and corrosion from disinfectant. Additionally, the industrial computer extends a 5G module through a MiniPCIe slot to construct a dual-band redundant network, achieving an AGV cross-zone roaming switching time of <15ms. This enables millisecond-level scheduling for a cluster of 30 AGVs, boosting vaccine handling efficiency by 150%. Furthermore, there is no human contact throughout the process, and the temperature variation deviation during transportation is controlled within ±0.5°C, meeting pharmaceutical GSP standards.

In the environmental monitoring and data management process, the ITA-170V2 industrial computer establishes a distributed intelligent monitoring system. Its front-end 14 serial ports are directly connected to 32 temperature, humidity, and dew point sensors within the warehouse, collecting environmental data from each storage area in real time and uploading it to the WMS warehouse management system. In the event of temperature exceeding the standard, an intelligent alarm is immediately triggered and the refrigeration equipment is activated to adjust, maintaining the temperature stability of the storage area at ±0.3℃. The industrial computer is equipped with the Kirin embedded system, which supports seamless integration with cold storage sterilization equipment and dehumidifiers, enabling automated control of the VHP sterilization process. Additionally, it has a built-in G-Sensor monitoring device that monitors vibration spectrum, providing early warning of key component failures such as AGV hub bearings and stacker gearboxes up to 7 days in advance, reducing unplanned equipment downtime by 78%. Furthermore, the edge computing capability of the industrial computer can process multi-source data from lidar and 3D cameras in real time, providing precise location identification and grasping instructions for stackers, achieving an accuracy rate of 99.995% for vaccine inbound and outbound storage.

In the warehousing sorting and storage location management process, the multi-protocol integration and high-speed data processing capabilities of industrial computers further enhance operational efficiency. By directly connecting four gigabit network ports to laser navigators and scanning devices, rapid identification of vaccine barcodes and matching with storage locations are achieved. The sorting instruction transmission delay is less than 1ms, and the error rate has been reduced from the traditional 3.5% to 0.2%. At the same time, industrial computers can seamlessly interface with WMS and ERP systems to achieve dynamic optimization and allocation of storage locations. Based on the shelf life of vaccines and the frequency of inbound and outbound transactions, storage locations are automatically adjusted, enabling the retrieval time of popular vaccines to be compressed to 45 seconds and the warehouse space utilization rate to increase from 35% to 85%.

After this renovation, the Sinopharm Guangzhou Vaccine Cold Storage can achieve daily inbound and outbound operations of 20,000 vaccines with only 8 staff members. The overall equipment efficiency has increased by 60%, saving over 3 million yuan in annual operation and maintenance costs and labor costs, and reducing the vaccine storage loss rate by 35%. This case fully demonstrates the core value of industrial-grade industrial computers in the warehousing field. Their industrial-grade design featuring wide temperature and voltage tolerance, dust resistance, and high reliability, coupled with multi-interface and powerful computing capabilities, can precisely adapt to the operational needs of different types of warehousing, such as cold chain, pharmaceuticals, and auto parts.
